Ground freight

Truckload when you need the trailer. LTL when you share it. Last mile when the delivery is the hard part.

Ground freight

Ground freight is the truck move. It can be the whole shipment, or the piece that connects a port or an airport to the shipper or the consignee. Tell us if the site has a dock, a forklift, and an appointment rule before we dispatch.

The booking confirmation names the cutoff, the equipment, and the charges. Transit times and sample rates on this site are explanations, not that confirmation. Operations records a milestone only after the cargo or the document has actually moved.

What to send for a written rate

  • City or port of origin, and city or port of destination
  • Mode: ocean, air, or truck, if you already know it
  • Pieces, weight, and dimensions
  • What the goods are, in plain language
  • The date the freight is ready
  • Hazardous, oversized, or temperature-controlled, if any of those apply

A quote is not a booking. The booking starts when you accept the rate, the cutoff, and the document list in writing.

Truckload

A truckload books the trailer for your freight. It is the right choice for a full pallet count, a direct delivery, or cargo that should not be handled at a cross-dock.

Less than truckload (LTL)

LTL shares the trailer. Your freight is picked up, may move through a terminal, and is delivered on a multi-stop route. Transit is longer than a dedicated truck, and the freight must be packed to survive a dock.

  • Freight class depends on density, stowability, handling, and liability
  • Liftgate, residential, and inside delivery are extra
  • Appointments are requested, not guaranteed, until the carrier confirms them

Last mile and drayage

Drayage is the short truck move between a port or rail ramp and a warehouse. Last mile is the delivery to a store, a job site, or a residence. Limited-access buildings, school hours, and construction sites need to be on the quote.

How it works

  1. 1

    Confirm the site

Dock or no dock, hours, and who will sign.

  2. 2

    Book the truck

We send the pickup window and any accessorial we already know.

  3. 3

    Load and count

The piece count at pickup is the piece count we will deliver.

  4. 4

    Deliver

Note damage on the receipt before the driver leaves.

Questions

Do you need a dock?

No. Say so on the quote. A liftgate or a driver-assist delivery is priced before dispatch.

Can the driver wait while freight is counted?

Waiting time past the free window on the booking is detention. Tell us if the receiver is slow.

What is a limited-access site?

A school, a farm, a construction site, a storage unit, or any address without a normal receiving dock.
